Anyone for a walk?

06/13/2022

With it such a lovely afternoon yesterday I thought I'd take the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful weather and stroll over and have a look at the Walking Football League kicking off for their new season and being sponsored appropriately by the Age UK. After all it was only a five minute walk for me.

I have seen this level of football before, only once though, and as on that occasion my immediate thought is that it must be so difficult for players to stay at a walking pace!

Even though there were a few that looked well over the minimum age of 50, you could still see the competitiveness in them and of course with that goes the customary occasional sly looking glance towards the ref expecting a free kick to be given!

There was also the fair share of strapped knees, shirts too small (or was that because bellies too big), and varying degrees of limps which no doubt got worse as the afternoon went on.

Of course this is where the artificial surface such as the one at Camborne College comes into its best and all afternoon three games were started simultaneously, although there were the occasional confusing moments when there were two or even three balls on the same six a side pitch!

Anyway well done all.

For more information the details of the league (east and west divisions) are on the County FA website.
